“Apple Support is arranging for pickup on Monday and have indicated that my replacement disc will only be shipped 1 to 2 days after receiving the returned item. So that puts Snow Leopard on my MacBook on Thursday at the earliest.”
Apple’s response to this issue seems to vary from… “you must’ve scratched the disc, we won’t be issuing a replacement” to “Sure, here, take this one” Personally I’ve been told to expect a wait of 2-3 days before the replacement disc is shipped.
Even Apple’s Support Forum presents different takes depending on who you talk to.

Yep, this was confirmed by the Apple store in Thailand were I just exchanged my second faulty disc. They received several complaints…
I’m in Australia and just returned from a large national retailer who said that all Snow Leopard discs they sold were returned the next day. He removed them from the shelf and is no longer selling them.
Bought the Family pack, worked fine on my 24″ iMac with an OPTIARC drive, but when I went to install on my wifes machine with a Matsushita drive it keeps failing.
Can you guys report that you’re having these problems with Matsushita drives?
