I own a brand new Macbook Pro 15". I had the exact same problem as most, "clean disc", maybe 6 times in a row, then borrowed another dvd from my friend who successfully installed SL on his new Mac Mini. But I got the same problem again, "clean disc".

What I tried, after reading people putting their spare memory in and after successful installation putting their memory back, was to just remove one of my memory sticks(I got 2x2GB) and after that the installation worked right away.

I start to wonder if the memory i "luckily" removed is faulty in some way or the SL installation is just weird.

My disk had a few small white particles on it and many scratches, both long and short, as well as one clearly visibly deeper 1 cm scratch.

Needless to say I did not proceed to install SL, and I am now hoping that my store has an extra copy in stock.

These actions seem to have helped others....
If you have access to another machine. Try making a copy of the DVD and using that to install.
Upgrade to 10.5.8 first, before even trying.
Make a disk image and save it to a thumb drive.
Try using Disk Sharing from another machine.
